SAYB:

SAYB sponsors a team for 14 year olds. Registration will be on the SAYB website

American Legion Junior Baseball:

Players attending MVHS (or living in the MVHS attendance area) born on or after January 1st 2006 are eligible to play Tri-City Red Junior Legion. The opportunity exists for some Junior Legion players to be double rostered on the Senior Legion team.

American Legion Senior Baseball:

Players attending MVHS born on or after January 1st 2004 are eligible to play Tri-City Red Senior Legion. Players born in 2003 or earlier are not eligible. Players who are age eligible but graduated from high school in 2022 are eligible to participate as well, but only if they played for Tri City Red 2022.

MVHS serves as the 'base' (home) high school for the Tri-City Red Legion Baseball Program.  Players who attend MVHS, or who live within the MVHS attendance boundary, but who attend schools other than MVHS are eligible to register.  Others who attend a school at which no Legion team is based, and/or who live in the boundary of a high school at which no Legion team is based, might also be eligible. Due to these types of rule complexities, those who don't attend MVHS, or who don't live within the MVHS attendance boundary should contact Gail Kalata (info@tricitybaseball.org, 651-592-4279) to confirm their eligibility to register for the Tri-City Red Legion Baseball Program.

Scott Oberg (MV teacher and JV coach) and Mike Odom (MVHS alum and JV coach) coach the Junior Legion team and Nik Anderson helps as his schedule allows. Tri-City Red Legion is coached by Bo Lovdahl (MVHS alum and Associate MVHS Activities Director). MV baseball coaches coach in the summer because we believe it is a critical time for us to build relationships, develop community and become familiar with the players in the program given the short high school season.

The Tri-City American Legion Post provides affiliation for both our Junior and Senior teams each summer but does not supply any funding for the program. The costs for our Junior and Senior Legion teams are covered by registration fees. Information about registration and tryouts will be provided in April. There is a tryout scheduled for April 23rd at noon at MVHS.

In conclusion, the MV baseball program believes it’s important for players wishing to continue their development to play summer baseball. The high school season is extremely short (slightly more than half the time compared to basketball and hockey with five less games) making the summer baseball experience important to future high school team success. SAYB, and the Tri-City Red Legion programs offer a positive summer baseball experience and provide opportunities for development at an affordable cost.
